As the holiday weekend approaches, I wanted to cook something both easy and tasty before heading out of town for a much needed break. I know everyone has a recipe for Turkey Burgers and swears that their recipe is juicy and not dry. Well, I am here to tell you THIS recipe for Turkey Burgers is both delicious and juicy! The secret is… Zucchini! Now sit back, grab yourself a DC Brau, and enjoy this recipe for the Best Big Green Egg Turkey Burgers!
Best Big Green Egg Turkey Burgers
For this recipe I gathered some lean ground turkey, a red onion, and a zucchini. For the side I grabbed an avocado to grill. The grated zucchini adds all that moisture back in to the burger you traditionally give up when using turkey. The shredded cheese helps bind everything together.
Grate the zucchini, chop the red onion (1/4 cup), measure 1/2 cup of the shredded cheese, and mix together with a pound of ground turkey.
Measure out the patties in to four 1/4 pound patties. Get your favorite BBQ rub ready. For this cook I used two flavors of Dizzy Pig rub: Bayouish and Pineapple Head.
Preheat the Big Green Egg and once your BGE is up to 400° you are ready to start grilling.
Once the burgers have a copious amount of rub applied and your avocados are pitted and sliced in half it is time to go!
I cook the burgers over direct heat for 4 minutes per side. I put the avocados on the top tier of the 2-tier swing rack.
After the burgers were done I took them off and let them rest for 5 minutes. I put the avocados on the bottom rack and let them get nice grill marks.
This burger is super tasty and moist due to the Zucchini that was mixed in the ground Turkey. Of course my personal favorite was the one using the Bayouish Dizzy Pig rub!
Serve the Turkey Burger on a bun with some Sriracha Mayonnaise and boom… quick, easy, and a super tasty dinner!
